Several times a week I receive messages telling me that I have been selected to help someone retrieve millions of dollars which are mysteriously stuck in a bank somewhere. Only I can help. All I have to do is to give my bank details so that the money which is stuck can be rescued.
Naturally, I’ll be given a huge fee for my services.
I expect you’ve received dozens of these emails too.
Most of them are tedious. They tell pretty much the same story. And it’s difficult to see why anyone could believe them.
But today I received the Daddy of all scams.
It came, allegedly from the Central Intelligence Agency and this is what it said:
‘We are delegated from the United States Intelligence Agency in conjunction with the help of the African Union, United Nations, European Union and FBI to pay 10 victims of the scam US $4.8 million each. During the course of our investigation we have been able to recover so much money from these scam artists. The UN, Anti-Crime Commission and the US Intelligence Community have ordered the money recovered from the Scammers to be shared among 10 lucky people around the world for compensation.’
‘This email is being directed to you because your email address was found in one of the scam artists files and computer hard disk during our investigation, maybe you have been scammed or not, you are therefore being compensated with the sum of $4,800,000. Reconfirm your details as stated below to enable us to proceed. We anticipate your urgent response.’
And then the CIA kindly included a form for me to fill in – and to help me give them all my details.
The letter was signed by someone from the US Intelligence Agency.
That scam was mildly amusing but the real scam of the century is, of course, the pseudo-scientific global warming confidence trick – created by the conspirators to kill billions and impoverish the rest of us.
